Project 2: Contextual Fit

sideV.PNG

The focus of this project was to take the Smith House; Originally constructed by Richard Myer, and develop an extension of the structure by extruding original systems without destroying the original building. This project will take the theme expressed by the client and find a way to implement it into the new structure.

Contextual Analysis

The Pessiri family has just bought the Smith House as a home for them to raise their new family, but require more space to do so. They desire the new extension to have enough room outdoors for activities and leave plenty of open areas to observe the Long Island Sound. The Pessiri's very musical and family orientated, and would like a space where they can all come and spend time together.

Concept Ideas

After developing on the preliminary ideas, I decided to extrude Add/Subtraction and Mass/Void properties from the original design and implement them into my concept. After the massing of the new extensions were finished I made sure circulation was feasible and cleaned up the shapes to make sure the importance of certain spaces was evident.
