Project 3: Light

sidev2.PNG

The purpose of this project was to show an understanding of Light interaction on surfaces and manipulation in spaces. The context for the project is to design a non-denominational faith chapel for SUNY Farmingdale State College to fit on their main campus.

Contextual Analysis

After analyzing the site of the college I decided to choose a location near the focal point of the campus, offset from the ellipse and a direct branch from the main circulation. I then oriented the floorplan of my buikding to maximize the capture of light making each chapel face the sun at different angles. I chose minimalist openings to keep a uniform and clean appearance but making sure that each space had its own unique features.
